Polyester and the D rating!
This is an important fact to know. When you see a material rated as “600D” the D stands for the denier rating. This is the way in which the density of flat material is measured. It is similar to thread count on your bedsheets! It is measured in terms of grams in one 9000 m strand of the material. When talking about hockey bags, we are usually looking at polyester or nylon material.
So, is more “D” better? Yes! This usually equates to more strength and greater life of the material. However, it is important to note that you have to compare apples to apples; that is, 600D polyester may not be stronger than 500D Nylon. You should only compare the denier rating of the same construction material.
Other factors of construction you may want to think about is the breathability or any mesh areas that will let heat or smells escape from your gear after use.
